NiftyAbout Nifty
SnP CNX Nifty is the name of what
we simply call "Nifty". Nifty is a Index of 50 stock from
more than 20
different sectors such as Bank, IT, FMCG, Oil and Gas, Realty,
Power, Metal, etc. It is used for benchmarking fund portfolios,
derivatives and index funds. Nifty futures started in April 1996 by NSE and since then it is traded in derivatives at National Stock Exchange India between 9am to 3.30pm weekdays. On Saturday, Sunday, and National Holidays there is no trading sessions. NSE India is the seventh largest exchange in the world for derivatives and traded from more than 50000 trading terminals. Nifty comprised with 50 frontline companies include with SBI, Reliance, ONGC, TATA, INFOSYS, etc. Till 2007 Nifty lot size was 100 but reduced to 50 by NSE to increase the liquid in the market since then more lots are traded in Nifty futures. CNX IT Index was lanched in August 2003 with futures and options, in June 2005 Bank Nifty index started trading in NSE. Junior Nifty and CNX 100 futures launched in 2007 june. Historical Price data of Nifty shows in 1997 price was around 900, in 2000 around 1400, in 2002 it came down to 1000, rise back in 2003 to 1900, in 2005 it was 2800, in 2006 4000, in 2007 6000, but came down to 3000 in 2008, back to 5000 in 2009. Trading is increasing day by day in Nifty futures, and Options. More and more traders are taking interest in Nifty futures and Options. It tend to be the most traded index in Asia.
